AOVET Masters Course—Equine Arthrodesis Techniques and Fracture Fixation

Course description

The AOVET Equine Course 2019 will utilize both cadaver and artificial legs as part of the learning experience, making it an even more attractive educational opportunity. This masters course will focus on very common and important osteosynthesis techniques, used in the surgical treatment of racehorses as well as in companion animals. This course is for equine surgeons who are familiar with the basic knowledge and have attended an AOVET principles course in equine fracture management. The course will cover arthrodesis techniques of the hind and front leg, and carpal and metacarpophalangeal joints, using plastic bones and cadaveric specimens to teach the technique and approach as well as the handling of the soft tissue. These teaching tools offer many advantages and will be a highlight of the course. Moreover, participants will learn the approach and the fixation of other bones.

This course is designed for veterinary orthopedic surgeons who have taken already a principles of fracture management course and ideally also an advanced course.
